The American Fantasy League was
formed in the spring of 2000. The twelve original teams were the London
Bandits (Jason Culley), Danville Doppelgangers (Chadd Maia),
British Bulldogs (Chris Cantrill), Universal City Raptors (Anthony
Fox), Manila Eagles (Jim Stasak), Piscataway Mobsters (Daniel
James), Brunswick Lions (Thorsten
Muehlhausen), Tempe Hippos (Brad Johnson), Orlando Jaguars (Ted
Blakemore), Great Smokey Mountain Saints (Allen Poteat), Blue Ridge
Falcons (Denny Stamey) and Fremont Raiders (Joe Frenchwood).
Eight of the original teams still remain in the league, although the London
Bandits became the Albuquerque Bandits in 2002 and the British Bulldogs became
the Washington Lumberjacks for the 2001 season, then the Dakota Dragons for the
2002 season and then the Dakota Lumberjacks for the 2003 season. The Tacoma Rainiers (Jon Shaffer) replaced the
Universal City Raptors after the 2000 season. The Cleveland Rocks
(Barry Walling) and Rocky Mountain Cougars (Bill Jones) replaced the
Piscataway Mobsters and the Manila Eagles respectively after the 2001 season.
The Great Smokey Mountain Saints (Allen Poteat) departed after the 2002
season and were replaced by Minnesota MoJo (Ryan Clarkson).
